About Caber

We are veteran Silicon Valley executives and innovators across enterprise AI, storage, networking, and security. Our hands have touched many of the IT products you trust and have used for years from Cisco, EMC(Dell), Akamai, IBM, and others

Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and data classification technologies have failed to bring precise visibility of, and control over, data. Across hundreds of conversations with enterprise technology leaders we heard you tell us:

“We have no idea where our data is going, or how it's used.”

Knowing it would be a heavy lift, we started Caber with passion to build a radically new platform that identifies, tracks, and enforces policy on any data as it's moving and used. And to fit how AI consumes data, we needed to start with a microscopic view of the ones and zeros that comprise it.

Why Caber is Different

In this era of generative AI the need to precisely control data use is more critical than ever for privacy and security. There’s no certificate of trust that comes with opaque, unpredictable AI models. Control over data is the only lever with which enterprises can exert control over AI.

Agentic AI, in particular, creates three new problems that make this control difficult:

  1. 1. Data is consumed in variable-sized ‘chunks’, not complete files, objects, or records
  2. 2. Policy context and lineage is not preserved as data moves
  3. 3. The identity of the user AI is acting on behalf of is not propagated to apply policies

Today’s guardrails and governance tools are not able to address these issues. The non-deterministic technologies they use were pioneered over twenty years ago and are failing. False alerts while detecting data misuse now exceed 95%, and 98% of data in use is classified as unknown.

Deterministic control can’t come from combining two non-deterministic technologies, like AI and data classification. We knew a fundamentally new approach was needed - one that advances in DNA sequencing provided.

The name Caber comes from 'Cabernet'...

For our home towns near the oldest growing region of New Zealand, Hawke's Bay, and the famous Napa Valley, California. The magnificence of Cabernet only develops from the passion of its winemakers and time.
